Where most of our riders start. An introductory school built around confidence and a proper understanding of the fundamentals. Not speed, and not putting a kid on a track and hoping it sorts itself out.

We watch first. Every rider gets seen properly before we say a word — where their eyes go, what their body does under brakes, what happens when the ground gets rough.

Then we pick two things. Not ten. Two things worth working on, and we work on them on track for the rest of the morning.

Riders leave with something specific they can take to every practice day after this, and parents leave knowing what to look for.

Building your toolbox. Coaching is where the tools get made. Race day is where they get used.

The biggest mistake we see is families who coach hard at the start, see results, then stop coaching and ride every weekend. Bad habits get reinforced week after week until the crashes start. The riders who keep improving are the ones who keep coming back to the fundamentals. This school is the first step in that.

What we cover

On track

  • Body position — and what changes it under brakes and on throttle

  • Cornering — ruts, flat corners, berms, and picking the right line

  • Braking and throttle control, and how the two work together

  • Getting comfortable and relaxed on the bike at speed

  • Jumping technique and control, pitched to each rider's level

  • Track reading — spotting good lines and adapting as the track changes

Away from the track

  • Bike setup and pre-ride checks the rider can do themselves

  • Warm-up and preparation routines

  • The mental side — nerves, focus, and how to reset after a mistake

  • How to structure practice at home so the work continues after the school

Riders spend a handful of hours with a coach and hundreds of hours on their own. What they do with that time decides everything.

Who it's for?

Beginners on 50cc, 65cc and 85cc bikes.

Grouped by ability, not age. Riders are sorted on the day so nobody is stuck behind riders they're waiting on, or chasing riders they're not ready for.

Readiness isn't about age. Some six-year-olds can take a step-by-step process and run with it straight away; some don't get there until eleven. We coach the rider in front of us, not the number on the entry form.

Unsure if your rider is ready? Email us before booking and we'll talk it through honestly.

Logbook and Kickstart hours

All coaching hours completed with MX101 count toward your MWA logbook and Kickstart licence. Hours accumulate across sessions, so riders working toward their endorsement can build them up over multiple schools.

Session times

Riding runs Saturday mornings. Sign-on and bike checks first, then we're on track.

Exact sign-on and riding times, gate access and anything specific to the day are confirmed in your Final Instructions once you're booked — one set of accurate details rather than something written months out.

Gear requirements

All riders must have the following:

  • Helmet

  • Goggles

  • Gloves

  • Body armour (all ages, no exceptions)

  • Long pants and long sleeves

  • Boots

Bike pre-check

Have the bike gone over before you arrive. Time spent fixing bikes is time off the track.

  • General check over

  • Chain tension

  • Tyres

  • Spokes

  • Oil and fluid levels

  • Brake pads

  • Controls positioned so the rider can comfortably reach them

Parents and guardians

All riders under 18 must have a parent or guardian on site with eyes on them for the duration of the school. Our coaches are there to coach — MX101 does not take on the guardian role at any event.

Spots are limited

Numbers are capped so coach-to-rider ratios stay where they need to be. This school fills quickly at the discounted rate — book early. Late entries can't be taken once entries shut, as groups, run sheets and coach numbers are locked in from that point.

Questions before you book?

Email events@mx101.com.au. Email is the best way to reach us on events — you get the right answer from the right person, written down to refer back to. Times, access and on-the-day logistics are all covered in your Final Instructions after booking.
